The
United Church was formed by an act of parliament
on June 10, 1925. The act made it possible for the
Methodist and Presbyterian Churches of Canada to unite.
In
that year, the congregations of the Methodist and Presbyterian
Churches in Mount Albert voted to unite. At first,
services were held alternately in the two churches.
In 1926, the congregation voted to use the former Methodist
Church, as it was larger, and the Presbyterian Church
was closed.
After
the union, the ladies from both congregations formed a
new group called the

Ladies
Union. The money they raised contributed to
the upkeep of the parsonage and supported the Church's
charities. Most of their money was raised by sponsoring
dinners and catering funerals and weddings. They
had a strawberry dinner in the spring and another dinner
in the fall. These dinners continue to this day
although they were suspended during war times. Now
the dinners are sponsored by the Church Stewards and not
the ladies.
In
1928, the parsonage, which had been on Centre Street,
was sold for $1,900 and a house, two houses north of the
Church, was purchased from Mr. Milton Mainprize for $4,500.
In
1957, an extension was put on the back of the United Church.
Downstairs it included a recreation room that was also
used for Sunday School, and upstairs it included a choir
room, nursery, kitchen, washrooms and a church parlor.
The dedication service took place on September 28, 1957.
For
many years the pastoral charge included the Hartman United
church on Davis Drive. In 1966, the Hartman congregation
voted to join the Mount Albert congregation and the Hartman
Church was sold and converted into a private residence.

Canada's
centennial year, 1967, was a busy year for the Church.
As a centennial project, it was decided to:
-
build a new manse at the back of the Church
-
build a narthex at the front of the Church, and
-
remodel the interior.
The
stained glass windows taken from the Hartman Church when
it closed were installed in the narthex.
During
the summer while the renovations were going on, services
were held in the public school on Mount Albert Road.
The official opening of the Church and manse was held
on October 15, 1967.
