Valley Mills Hotel

Centre Street

The Valley Mills Hotel was located just south of Mill Street on the west side of Centre Street.  It was built in the 1850’s.  Many wonderful parties were held in the hotel in the early days, including the grand ball in the winter.

The hotel had several owners throughout the years.  John Rosemond owned it in the 1880’s.  Later Nick Gomon owned it.  In 1909, William Rear purchased it.  In 1912, Hub Foote purchased it.

In the late 1900’s, Irvine Dubrick used it as a barbershop and house.  Walter Draper bought it and lived in it for a time.

In 1937, it was sold to Mr. Harry Leadbetter.  He. moved it to its present location and turned it so that the front faced south.  Mr. Leadbetter converted the building into a butcher shop and cold storage plant.

In 1966 the butcher shop and storage plant were closed and the building was converted to apartments.
