Tinsdale Print Shop

73 Main Street

The Tinsdale Print Shop was located in the first building west of Centre Street on the south side of Main Street.  Mr. Ernest Brooks built this building in 1905.

Mr. R.H. Tinsdale rented it, but in 1909 he bought it.  He had a printing office downstairs in the east (left) side of the building with a dwelling above.  For a short time, he produced a Mount Albert weekly newspaper, but as it did not pay, it was discontinued.  His daughter Olive took over the printing business after his death in 1936.

In 1955, Mr. W.H. Theaker purchased the building for use as an insurance office.  This business was sold to Mr. William Armstrong in 1962.

The west side of the building was originally an implement shop run by Elias Pegg.  Later his son Fred took over the business.

Since then, there have been many different shops located in the two storefronts.

The east side:  One such business was a beauty salon operated by Kathie Case from 1973.  For a short time Mountain Carpets was there.  Currently The Clean Food Connection operated by Robert Burrows is here.  He set up shop in December 2000.

The west side:  For several years there was an egg grading station operated by Mr. Schimbo in the west side.  For a short time there was a children’s clothing store, followed by a gift and novelty shop called Krosswinds.  This business moved to a new location in the spring of 2001 and the west shop is currently vacant.
