Lloyd's Drug Store

19161 Centre Street

The drug store is the fifth building south of Vivian creek on the east side of Centre Street.  D. Hamill originally owned it.  In 1883, Mr. Pringle purchased it.  It was later sold to Thomas Rowland.  Mr. Rowland ran a drug store in one part of the building and Dr. Walter Armatiage, a medical doctor, had his office in the back of the building.

Mr. W.T. Lloyd bought the building in 1889 and operated it as a drug store.  The ERA Banner reported a "very great improvement in our drug store" since Mr. Lloyd took possession.  February 1, 1895, Mr. Clark, from Schomberg, became the new druggist.

In 1898, Mr. Lloyd started the first library in the back of the store.  In 1906, he set up the first telephone office in the back of his store and he operated the telephone..

In 1948 James Rennie purchased the building and renovated it into a more modern building.  In 1949 Taylor Beal purchased it.

In 1966, the old building was demolished and a new drug store was built and operated by William Farr.  In the mid-1980's, Harry Porter purchased it and operated the drug store.  In May 1999, Ben’s Pharmacy, a chain of drug stores, purchased it and continues to operate the drug store.
