Mount Albert Garden & Horticultural Society

UPCOMING EVENTS

OHA District 5
Annual General Meeting
Saturday, April 22, 2006
9:00 am to 3:00 pm
hosted by the Markham Garden and Horticultural Society

Now this is an AGM that you'll want to attend. The theme is Gardeners without Borders. In addition to the flower show and printed materials competition there are also vendors, a chance to exchange ideas with other societies and a live auction. And to top it off...two great speakers and lunch...all included for $25! What a deal!

The speakers for the day are Arthur Beauregard and Glen Fidler who will present their interpretation of the theme of the event. Arthur was the Manager of Natural Environment and Horticulture for the City of Toronto, Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division...he is now the Executive Director of the Toronto Parks and Trees Foundation which works to raise funding to preserve and enchance Toronto green spaces. Glen has 32 years experience in the floral industry and has been teaching for 13 years at Seneca College in Toronto. He is a member of the American Floral Deisgn Association and he is an award-winning designer. The two floral designs he creates during his presentation will be auctioned off in the late afternoon.

And each society will have a change to "Spotlight" their activities during the year. We're going to do a PowerPoint display this year.

There is also a door prize donated by each society. We have donated a drain spade shovel and a pair of Fiskars.

If you are interested in entering the flower show, please contact Carolyn Watt at cw@carolynwatt.com for a copy of the show schedule.

A Stroll Down Memory Lane
(Mount Albert Garden & Horticultural Society's 2006 Garden Tour)

The date - Sunday, June 25, 2006
The time - noon until 5:00 pm

Featuring the gardens of century homes in East Gwillimbury, complete with people in period costume and antique cars, MAGHS will take you back to an earlier time as you stroll through our lovely gardens. We invite you to join us as we celebrate OHA's 100 anniversary. Our tour will also include two new gardens that we are building as part of that celebration. These gardens are public demonstration gardens with native and drought resistant plants. There will also be speciality vendors at each home on the tour, from lavendar sachets to botanical pictures, a book on fairies, to demonstrations of fresh flower arranging....and you can sip some old fashioned lemonade or have a cup of tea in the garden. It's a lovely way to spend a Sunday. And if you wish, you're welcome to appear in period costume yourself if you wish.

This tour has something for everyone. The passports go on sale at local merchants on May 1, 2006. All horticultural societies in District 5 will receive their invitation personally. We'll send out a personal invitation to the adjoining Districts as well.

We look forward to having you join us. See you in June!
